Prairie Heart Institute opened in 1998    www.prairieheart.com
3/16/01 - St. Johns has decicated its new $10.7 milliion, 40,000sq ft Emergency Room facility.  Construction begain in July of 1999.  It should be open to patients in April or May.   It is equipped with the latest equipment, including on site X-ray rooms with a CT scanner, laboratory facilities and specialized diagnostic areas for heart, bone, trauma and psychiatric problems.  St. Johns is a cooperating hospital in the Southern Illinois Trauma Center, begun two years ago by SIU School of Medicine in conjuctions with St. Johns and Memorial Medical Center.  The trauma center's location rotates yearly between the two institutions and is currently at St. Johns.  It moves to Memorial in July 2001.
