(Drug) Task Force X  (Champaign Co & formerly Decatur/Macon)

CHAMPAIGN – Local police agencies are pulling out of Task Force X – the multiagency drug investigations unit for Champaign County, law enforcement officials announced Wednesday.   Champaign police Deputy Chief John Murphy said the main reason for the move is to allow agencies to be more flexible in their use of the officers currently assigned to the unit.

East Central Illinois (Drug) Task Force

Made up of at least one officer each from Mattoon, Charleston, EIU Police depts, Coles County Sheriff dept, Moultrie County Sheriff Dept, Shelby County Sheriff Dept., Arcola Police dept, ISP.  Serves entire counties of Douglas, Coles, Moultrie, and Shelby.  Investigates cases of narcotics and money laundering, as well as assists agencies in investigating other major crimes.  So far, they are still together, though I read that they were talking about droping the officer from Moultrie County because of budget problems for the county.  Local newspaper said they're based in Mattoon, formed 1989.  Oficers assigned to the force are commissioned as Illinois State Police Investigators and can even work for the DEA.  Units on 154.695 are "5-Ida".
