Coles County Sheriff's Department

A "Private Call/Detective" Channel is Explained below.
POLICE PRIVY (Sheriff "Channel 2"/ "Detective Channel") (All police agencies in Coles Co. use it)-- 800 mHz SMR out of Paris Illinois---analog, with narcs
usually encrypted, over 70 other users on system.
I've heard a buzzing sound, (much like an airplane engine) on 858.7875 nearly every time the encrypted talkgroups are activated on the 856.9125 control channel.  This leads me to believe that the Sheriff/Drug Task Froce input is actually 858.7875, not another frequency band.  The "Clear Talk" station licenses it as a repeater, but is probably also a base/mobile simplex for the police.  I hear the clear base station periodically, as well as some distant signals (probably the police mobile radios) replying to it, and all transmitting that same "buzz"noise.  I don't know why the police link into the trunked system in the first place, though, because they only really need that one frequency for "private call."
Coles County Sheriff uses Kenwood portables.  Kenwood makes trunked/conventional radios in one, so the radios may have a trunked channel for "detective"/task force/"channel 2", in addition to all the conventional sheriff ones.  Portables, especially 800 mHz, are difficult to receive, and could be another reason why I don't hear an input when the digital talkgroup on Clear Talk keys up.
